‘Can’t believe I am saying this’ – Tiger Woods sparks internet mayhem with April Fool’s joke

Tiger Woods just broke the internet with an April Fool’s joke about playing in the 2025 Masters.

The 15-time major winner is expected to miss all four of golf’s biggest events this year after undergoing surgery on a ruptured Achilles in March.

It is an injury which usually requires four to six months of recovery, while returning to elite-level sport at the age of 49 typically takes longer.

But for five glorious minutes, Woods had many golf fans convinced he had fully recuperated in just a matter of weeks.

Writing on X, formerly known as Twitter, he said: “I can’t believe I am saying this, but a few weeks after rupturing my left Achilles, the sleeping in a hyperbaric chamber plus the explosive lifts my doctors and trainers have me ready to play the Masters next week! Can’t wait! See y’all on the course.”

After momentary panic, those more savvy among us checked the date to see that it was, in fact, April Fool’s Day.

Augusta National officially released the field for next week’s Masters on Monday – and Woods was not included.

Then the golfing icon came clean and wrote: “P.S. April Fools my Achilles is still a mess :).”

It is the second time Woods’ social media activity has caught fans off guard in just over a week.

The American recently announced he is in a romantic relationship with Vanessa Trump.

Woods wrote: “Love is in the air and life is better with you by my side! We look forward to our journey through life together. At this time we would appreciate privacy for all those close to our hearts.”

The message took many fans by surprise given Woods is not usually one for sentiment on social media.

Woods posted the announcement alongside two pictures of him and Vanessa

Besides, he failed to actually identify that the woman in the photos was Vanessa Trump, presumably thinking golf fans everywhere would recognise the former wife of Donald Trump Jr.

Meanwhile, many were amused by the idea of asking for privacy in a public announcement nobody was asking for.

Woods is officially entering his Weird Dad era and we are here for it.

The superstar athlete looks set to win April Fool’s Day, but he is not the only one out to bamboozle sports fans.

Our very own Jamie O’Hara and Jason Cundy reacted furiously to a ‘huge story’ about promoted teams getting a three-point head-start in the Premier League next season.

Target Darts tricked fans into thinking Phil Taylor was coming out of retirement for a showdown with reigning world champion Luke Littler – only for them to be playing Jenga instead of darts.

Outside the world of sport, Labour announced a new Minister for Hope, Good Vibes and Positivity, while Subway launched a new range of foot-long protein shakes.

Don’t trust anyone today, folks.
