Rematch: Under One Major Condition,Terence Crawford Willing To Rematch Errol Spence Jr
Terence Crawford scored a career-defining victory over Errol Spence Jr last year.
After a frustratingly long wait, fans witnessed the two top dogs at 147 come together in Las Vegas on July 29.
The ninth round stoppage saw ‘Bud’ put an end to a long-running welterweight supremacy debate, secure all four belts in the division and become the first male fighter to be undisputed in two weight classes.
A rematch – which was agreed in the contract at the loser’s discretion – seemed unnecessary to most given the nature of the win, and time ran out for Spence to activate it. That does not mean it won’t happen further down the line.
Speaking to Brian Mazique, Crawford laid out the conditions for the pair to run it back – namely both having a belt at 154.
“The possibility is there. He’s fighting Fundora for his title, I’m fighting for a title. There’s the possibility. He win his fight, God willin’. I win my fight, God willin’. There’s a possibility right there.
Despite his goal of continuing to move up to super-middleweight to challenge Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, he has expressed an interest in becoming undisputed at 154 if he can do it quickly. Spence may just be one of two obstacles to getting there.
