REMATCH: But is still over two stone lighter than Jarrell Miller, Andy Ruiz Jr comes in at heaviest weight since Anthony Joshua rematch

Last time out, he defeated Luis Ortiz via unanimous decision in a WBC eliminator bout in September 2022 after weighing in at 268.8lbs (19.2 stone).

Ahead of his upcoming clash with Miller, Ruiz Jr has tipped the scales at 274.4lbs (19.6 stone) during a behind-closed-doors weigh-in.

Miller is over two stone heavier at 305.6lbs (21.8 stone).

For Miller, it is his lightest weight since 2018 and a 27.4lbs drop from his last fight against Daniel Dubois.

Meanwhile, Ruiz Jr’s weight is his heaviest since his rematch with Anthony Joshua in December 2019.

Ruiz Jr shocked the world in June 2019 when he knocked out Joshua to become WBA ‘super’, IBF, and WBO world champion in their inaugural encounter.

For the first fight, Ruiz Jr was 268lbs (19.1 stone) but when he ran it back with AJ six months later he was a whopping 283.5lbs (20.2 stone).

The stocky puncher blamed the 15lbs weight gain on ‘partying too much’ after winning the world titles and looked extremely sluggish as he laboured to a wide unanimous decision loss.

He will have to put on a far better display against Miller at Los Angeles’ BMO Stadium if he hopes to return to the upper echelons of the heavyweight division.

Elsewhere on the bill, Crawford and Madrimov made championship weight for their WBA super-welterweight showdown.

Crawford came in at 153.4lbs (10.9 stone) while the Uzbek weighed in at 154lbs (11 stone).

Isaac Cruz and Jose Valenzuela’s WBA super lightweight title fight will also go ahead with the champion making 140lbs (10 stone) and the challenger stepping on the scales at 139.8lbs (9.9 stone).

In the other heavyweight bout, Martin Bakole was 284.4lbs (20.3 stone) while Jared Anderson was 252.4lbs (18 stone).

The rest of the reported main card weights can be found above.

All of the results were made official in the early hours of Saturday morning (UK time) at the ceremonial weigh-in.

“We got to work really hard. He wants to be a champion, and I want to be a champion again. The best man wins on Saturday.”

Miller is hoping to replicate Ruiz Jr and move himself into a position to fight for a world title.

The American said: “He knows what it feels like to have his hand raised and get a championship belt. I don’t know yet.

“So, I’m still seeking that thrill. I’m still seeking that feeling, and the hunger inside of me is even stronger now.

“I’m 35-years old. It’s do or die.”

Nobody hit me harder: I fought Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk and Dillian Whyte but nobody hit me harder than journeyman boxer with only 3 KOs

Derek Chisora has shared the ring with several big punchers.

During the course of an iconic career stretching back to 2007, ‘Del Boy’ has boxed the likes of Tyson Fury, Dillian Whyte, David Price and Oleksandr Usyk.

But none of them hit as hard as journeyman boxer Paul Butlin.

The 41-fight veteran retired with a record of 16-24-1 with only three wins coming by way of knockout.

Yet Chisora insists Butlin had some serious power in his hands.

“You remember this guy, Paul Butlin. He hit me so hard I thought the referee needed to check his gloves,” he told talkSPORT.com.

“I will never forget when he went boom, boom. And I’m like ‘God man, somebody needs to check this guy’s gloves’.

“I went back to the corner and Don [Charles] (Chisora’s former trainer) told me you need to move, you can’t stand there.

“The guy was strong and he hit me with a body shot and I was like ‘Nah, I need to box this guy’.”

Chisora boxed Butlin twice in the paid ranks, winning both bouts via unanimous decision.

Midway through their second fight, Chisora decided to imitate the now infamous scenes from Mike Tyson’s rematch with Evander Holyfield by biting Butlin’s ear.

He wasn’t disqualified from the contest but did recieve a four month suspension and a £2,500 fine from the Southern Area Council for his actions.

Later in his career, Butlin was knocked out by Anthony Joshua before eventually hanging up his gloves in 2016 following a stoppage defeat to Kash Ali.

A video uploaded to YouTube, which has now amassed 1.4million views, shows a livid camerman hurling abuse at Butlin for delivering a letter to him about an outstanding fine which he refused to pay.

Clearly unaware of who he was talking to, the man threatened to ‘punch the f***’ out of Butlin.

But to the ex-boxer’s credit he remained unfazed and replied: “I’m not here to fight you, I’m not a fighter mate.”

He returns to the ring on Saturday night against Joe Joyce in what will be his tenth apperance at London’s O2 Arena.

Chisora insists it will be his last fight at the iconic 20,000-seater.

However, it won’t be his final outing as a professional.

His domestic dust-up with Joyce marks his 48th fight and Chisora is fully intent on making it to 50 bouts before he even contemplates calls time on his career.

What He Must Do To Win” Heavyweight Who Beat Anthony Joshua Tells Daniel Dubois

Andy Ruiz Jr is one of only two heavyweights who knows what it takes to beat Anthony Joshua.

The Mexican-American famously did so on a night in June 2019 at Madison Square Garden. Despite being a late stand-in and huge betting underdog who was put down hard in the early rounds, ‘The Destroyer’ rallied and had ‘AJ’ down several times himself on the way to a sensational stoppage victory.

That made him a unified champion, though not for long: he spent more time at the fridge and the club than the gym in the ensuing six months, as he admits himself, and came in under prepared to lose a conclusive 12-round points decision in the rematch out in Saudi Arabia.

Anthony Joshua later lost his titles to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 but this time failed to regain them in a rematch in 2022. He is now looking to become a three-time world champion when he takes on IBF ruler Daniel Dubois at Wembley next month.

Ahead of that, Ruiz was asked by Seconds Out what Dubois must do to upset the odds as he once did.

“He just has to believe in himself, believe that he’s going to win. Be smart in there. Try not to get hit with these big shots cause [AJ] is strong, he is big, but anything is possible, man. Just exactly like how I won, anybody else can win. All they have to do is believe in themselves and work hard and be smart. He’s on a two-win streak. Anything can happen, you never know.”

He stopped short of giving a winner when asked.

“I don’t know. I don’t want to say. I hope they both win. I know Dubois, and I know his dad. They’re good people and I wish the best for them.”

HINTS ‘I DON’T THINK HE HAS FOUR OR FIVE YEARS IN HIM’ – EDDIE HEARN HINTS AT ANTHONY JOSHUA CAREER TWILIGHT

Eddie Hearn has admitted that he doesn’t see Anthony Joshua fighting for another four or five years, and believes that the British former heavyweight champion might only have “three, four, five, or six more” fights in his professional career. Joshua, who will turn 35 in October, faces Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium on September 21, and it will be broadcast live on TNT Sports Box Office.

Eddie Hearn has hinted that Anthony Joshua might only have a few fights left of his professional career.
The Matchroom Boxing CEO indicated that Joshua, who is set to face Daniel Dubois live on TNT Sports Box Office, “would fight anybody”, but “is not going to be around forever.”
Anthony Joshua will face Dubois on September 21 at Wembley Stadium, as he looks to continue his winning streak after his knockout victory over Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia.
Joshua, now 34, will turn 35 in October, and Hearn admitted that the Briton could only have a single-digit number of bouts left.

“AJ would fight anybody,” Eddie Hearn told BoxNation.
“He would be happy to fight Ruiz again. He’s not going to be around forever.
“Three more, four more, five more, or six more. I don’t think he has four or five more years in him, but who knows?”
Joshua sees his compatriot Dubois, who arrives at Wembley in good form following two knockout wins over Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic, as a side quest before he gets the title shot that he really wants, against the winner of Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk’s rematch, which is scheduled for December 2 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

“The main plan is to beat Daniel Dubois on September 21st and then fight for the undisputed against the Usyk-Fury winner,” said Hearn.

“He’s in the best shape of his life, loves his boxing, and is very happy.
“So, while that is the case, carry on going. Part of me would like to see AJ beat Dubois and then fight the winner, Usyk-Fury, twice.
“If you won those, imagine winning those and then calling it. That would be unbelievable.”

Says Adam Booth, Daniel Dubois could have had the “wake up call” he needed to beat Anthony Joshua

Adam Booth: “You’d have to be a fool not to realise that you need to take Anthony Joshua’s right hand away from him”; Joshua and Dubois will meet in a clash for the IBF heavyweight world title at Wembley Stadium, live on Sky Sports Box Office on September 21

Daniel Dubois could have had the “wake up call” he needed to beat Anthony Joshua, suggests top trainer and boxing expert Adam Booth.

Dubois will fight Joshua for the IBF world heavyweight championship at Wembley stadium on September 21, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Now upgraded to world champion, after Usyk had to vacate the title, Dubois was the IBF’s Interim belt-holder after his June victory over Croatia’s Filip Hrgovic.

It wasn’t an entirely routine victory for Dubois, but Adam Booth believes that could make him more dangerous in his fight with Joshua.

“The fact that Hrgovic found the right hand so many times could be the wake up call for Daniel that he needed to make that adjustment. You’d have to be a fool not to realise that you need to take Anthony Joshua’s right hand away from him,” Booth told Sky Sports.

There is a factor that both Joshua and Dubois do share, as well as their respective punch power. Both boxers are settling in with new trainers, Joshua with Ben Davison and Dubois with Don Charles.

Joshua has looked impressive in consecutive stoppage wins over Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou, as has Dubois who ground down both Jarrell Miller and Hrgovic.

Their new-look corners do make them unpredictable.

“Although we know more about AJ at that level, because there’s much more of a body of work, working with a new coach there’s always going to be a slight change. I think that Dubois is actually on the up because his last two performances I think are going to make him a much better fighter,” Booth said.

Booth, renowned for his work with David Haye, understands high-profile heavyweight fights from the inside.

“In the heavyweights with a big rivalry and a big stadium sometimes it’s the one that can keep their head when these little moments of the firefight kick off or when the dangerous shots are being looked for, it’ll be the one that keeps their head,” he said.

“AJ has proven that he can make the mistakes but still keep his head and that’s still for Daniel to prove.”

“Different Levels Now” Usyk’s Team Has  gives one option For Anthony Joshua Trilogy Fight: “Different Levels Now”

Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk have fought 24 rounds together and there’s a possibility to make it 36 before they hang up the gloves.

‘AJ’ put his WBA, WBO and IBF belts on the line against the former undisputed cruiserweight champion in 2021, being thoroughly outboxed to lose for just the second time in his career.

Usyk kept the belts in the immediate rematch despite a more spirited performance from the Brit, and would go on to become undisputed in a second weight-class by beating Tyson Fury this year.

With Joshua now on a four-fight win streak, Usyk’s promoter Alex Krassyuk was recently asked about the potential of a third fight by Boxing King Media.

“Anthony Joshua was talking about the third fight. He’s a great champ. He’s changed a lot since the two fights with Usyk. We’ve seen him going down and see him rising up. It’s also a complicated fight to make. I’ll tell you why – cause now we are on different levels.

The first fight, Usyk was almost no-name and Anthony Joshua was a massive star in the UK. After he beat him twice, Anthony Joshua still remains a massive star here no matter what. So this fight might be something that attracts attention from the whole world.”

After going back and forth on the price-tag his man would deserve for the third fight, Krassyuk settled on a modest number.

“Let’s stay with $200 million.”

Joshua fights for his old belt on September 21 after Usyk vacated, allowing Daniel Dubois to be elevated to Full IBF Champion and put it on the line against his fellow Brit.

Should ‘AJ’ win that to become a three-time heavyweight champion and Usyk beat Fury in their December rematch, there may indeed be discussions on the fight, but fans may wonder how much motivation will come from the Ukrainian’s side given his two conclusive wins.

A more lucrative scenario would be for Fury to avenge his defeat, setting up a long-awaited all-British showdown with Joshua.

Too easy, don’t be afraid: Oleksandr Usyk warns Tyson Fury ‘don’t be afraid’ as heavyweight champion laughs off ‘too easy’ claims

Oleksandr Usyk beat Tyson Fury in May to become the heavyweight division’s first undisputed champion in almost 25 years; Fury said in a June interview that he had lost the fight as a result of finding it “too easy” before being knocked down in the ninth round

Oleksandr Usyk warned Tyson Fury not to be “afraid” ahead of their rematch as he laughed off the Brit’s claims that he lost their fight because he found it “too easy”.

Usyk beat Fury in May via a split decision to become the heavyweight division’s first undisputed champion in almost 25 years, ending Fury’s unbeaten record.

Speaking in June, ahead of the rematch which is scheduled for December 21 in Saudi Arabia, Fury insisted that while he thought he won the fight, the only reason Usyk had been able to deliver a late onslaught was that he was “enjoying it too much and messing around”.

In an exclusive interview with Sky News on Thursday at the Ukrainian embassy in London, at which Usyk was present to see UK vehicles being donated to his country, he responded to Fury’s comments.

He said: “Oh my god, no way! Okay, no problem. The next fight will be easy [for him too].

“For me, my fight will be hard because Tyson Fury is a big man, a good boxer, with a good boxing IQ.

“But if Tyson says for him it will be easy, ok, no problem. I see for Tyson Fury, I see for the eyes of Tyson Fury, it’s not easy. It will be hard, very, very hard.

‘Referee did his job protecting Fury’

Most neutral observers believed Usyk deserved victory after he overcame a spell of Fury dominance to force a ninth-round knockdown, and very nearly a stoppage.

Some felt the referee had unfairly aided Fury by stepping in to deliver a standing count when Usyk was perhaps just a punch away from ending the contest, but the Ukrainian says he has no issue with the officiating.

“For me, it doesn’t matter,” he said. “Every referee, it’s a professional guy. The referee does his job. Maybe my last punch would be dangerous for Tyson Fury. It’s good.

“Tyson has a big family, I have a big family. Listen, we win. Everything is ok. I do not think about the referee after the fight. We win, thank god, all good, everything is ok.

‘Fury is like a yeti, it’s hard’

Usyk also reiterated his camp’s claims that he did not suffer a broken jaw during the fight, as Fury continued to claim was the case in his June interview.

The 37-year-old, who will carry a 22-0 record into the rematch, admitted Fury had inflicted damage to various parts of his body as he compared the Brit to a yeti.

“No, not break my jaw,” Usyk said. “Yes, I have a little bit of a problem but I have problems with my fist, my back, my whole body because it’s a hard fight, 47 minutes.

“You see Tyson Fury, he’s like a yeti. It’s hard. My face is good, beautiful.”

Fight Edges Closer” Will it take place ? Roy Jones Jr Gives Honest Verdict On Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury As Fight Edges Closer

There is real hope that Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will end up facing off in the ring sometime soon.

The careers of the two British heavyweight rivals have long been running in parallel but have yet to cross paths. Both men have been world champions for a number of years but politics and, in the case of Fury with Deontay Wilder, court rulings have kept them apart, much to the frustration of the fans.

Right now, both men have big fights to win in the coming months. In December, Fury has to try and reverse the result of his first fight with Oleksandr Usyk in which he failed to claim the undisputed title back in May.

Joshua meanwhile is hoping to become a three-time world champion when he takes on the newly elevated IBF belt holder Daniel Dubois in September.

The Fury-Usyk rematch will once again take place in Saudi Arabia, and the man behind boxing in the region Turki Alalshikh recently got ‘The Gypsy King’ on a FaceTime with AJ, confirming he wants to make the fight if the Brit can avenge his sole career defeat.

“Champ, finish the job on 21 of December and look who’s waiting for you [Joshua].”

Speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, former multi-weight king Roy Jones Jr believes we might see the clash even if Fury loses again to the Ukrainian and says the fight is a pure 50/50 battle.

“Here’s the thing, if Joshua wins a title and if Usyk is able to beat Fury again, then the next fight the UK wants to see I think will be Fury against Joshua for Joshua’s title and that’s a fight that to me is a 50-50.”

The ideal scenario would be both Fury and Joshua winning and then an undisputed fight between the two could well be on the cards.

After the KO “Francis Ngannou says ‘something wasn’t right’ during his fight with Anthony Joshua

Francis Ngannou insists he wasn’t feeling himself before his fight with Anthony Joshua.

The Cameroonian cage fighter had caused Tyson Fury all kinds of problems when they squared off in December.

However, AJ had no such issues as he dropped Ngannou three times en route to a second-round stoppage in March.

Ngannou’s night got off to a disastrous start when he was decked by a right hand in the opening stanza.

He did well to regain his footing and make his way back to his corner after what appeared to be a heavy knockdown.

But the former UFC heavyweight champion claims it wasn’t the punch that sent him tumbling to the canvas.

“I got into the ring and I wasn’t feeling myself,” Ngannou told Joe Rogan during the most recent episode of his podcast.

“The first round when he knocked me down and I fell and I was like, ‘Did I slip?’ What exactly knocked me down? I felt the punch but it wasn’t the punch that knocked me down.

“I really got confused at that time. I was like ‘Damn, what?’

“But from that moment I got knocked down with a punch that wasn’t that hard.

“He hit my hand before he hit my face and I felt it, I felt the punch but it wasn’t [enough to put me] on the floor.

A hard time, “He will give up” – Sparring partner who KO’d Daniel Dubois and gave Anthony Joshua a ‘hard time’ only sees one winner in all-British clash

Martin Bakole has no doubt as to who he thinks will get their hand raised between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois.

The heavyweight titans are set to square off on September 21 at Wembley Stadium for the IBF heavyweight title.

Dubois was recently upgraded from ‘interim’ to full world champion after Oleksandr Usyk vacated the belt to fulfil his rematch clause with Tyson Fury.

AJ opens up as a 1/5 favourite to beat Dubois with talkSPORT Bet.

And Bakole – who has sparred both men – is in agreement with the oddsmakers.

“Joshua is too good for Dubois and more experienced. He has a technique and a big heart,” he told talkSPORT.com.

“Daniel doesn’t have a big heart so as soon as he starts landing the big beautiful punches, he will give up.

“He doesn’t have a big heart. I think Joshua for the experience but anything can happen.

“Daniel Dubois can land beautiful punches he surprised everyone against Hrgovic but I don’t Joshua will give up and he will try his best.

“So for experience, for boxing style, for his brain, I think he is a little bit higher than Dubois.”

The Congolese heavyweight claims to have stopped Dubois twice in sparring and given Joshua a ‘hard time’ when they shared the ring together.
