Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach – Full Prime PPV Card

Let’s be honest—Roach is justifiably a huge underdog. He’s fought Davis twice in the amateurs and lost decisions in both fights. As a pro, he has never faced an opponent on Davis’ level.

Roach also hasn’t shown the kind of punching power that would convince fans he’ll be able to hurt the lightweight champion. If Roach is going to have success, he’ll need to establish his jab—which is easier said than done against a fighter like Davis, whose lack of height often works in his favor against taller opponents.

Roach also has to prove that he can take a shot without wilting, as most of Davis’ opponents have done in his 30 pro fights. Lastly, Roach has to frustrate Davis. Whether it’s through wrestling, roughhousing, or unpredictable movement, he’s got to bring some anxiety to Davis’ performance.

It may sound overly simplistic, but Davis needs to be himself. He’s as physically gifted as any fighter in the sport, and his fight IQ is exceptional.

Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach fight card, start time, how to watch

He starts slow while getting an opponent’s timing, but once he has it, he’s on a seek-and-destroy mission. If there is anything he must be careful of in this fight, it’s falling into the trap of being too friendly and familiar with Roach.

The two men seemingly have a good relationship. Davis showed immense respect for Roach’s mother at the presser on Thursday.

If Davis stays focused on the task, he will have this finished by the sixth round.

Here is a look at the boxing schedule for 2025 following Tank vs. Roach.

The head of the Association of Boxing Commissions told BoxingScene on Monday that the Michigan Unarmed Combat Commission is wrong to suspend – or even scold – women’s heavyweight champion Claressa Shields over a mouth-swab test that revealed the presence of marijuana.

The commission tested two-time Olympic gold medalist Shields following her heavyweight victory in her hometown of Flint, Michigan, on February 2, identifying the swab test as positive and issuing a condemning statement afterward

“Ms. Shields’ conduct as a licensed professional boxer constitutes an immediate threat to the integrity of professional boxing, the public interest and the welfare and safety of professional athletes,” the Michigan commission previously wrote.

The ABC president Michael Mazzuli labeled that statement “overkill”, and called on the commission to immediately reveal its findings relating to Shields, a three-time undisputed champion whose bout on February 2 followed the release of the uplifting film about her life, “The Fire Inside”.

“We would like to know what the amount of marijuana in the system was – the nanogram level,” Mazzuli said. “My understanding is it was a swab test – therefore, there is no nanogram level.

“We feel the fighter should not be stripped of any title. In fact, numerous states and tribal commissions no longer test for marijuana, and mine [the Mohegan Sun (Connecticut) commission] is one of them. The sport has to change with industry and today’s standards.”

Mazzuli once threw out a positive test for marijuana from a fighter from Colorado because the fighter hailed from a state where marijuana use is legalized.

Cannabis use is legal in Michigan following an initiative in 2018.

Michigan’s commission has its own set of issues, including drawing criticism from other regulators for permitting some promoters to have a voice in appointing officials for fights in the state.

“And they’re concerned about a marijuana result using a swab test?” Mazzuli asked.

“You can’t blame the promoters. You can blame a system that’s broken within the state of Michigan.

Shields defeated Perkins via unanimous decision, over 10 rounds.

American boxer Claressa Shields, the undisputed world champion in three weight classes, has been suspended and is under investigation after testing positive for marijuana following her victory over heavyweight Danielle Perkins in Michigan.

The Michigan Unarmed Combat Commission suspended the 29-year-old athlete from competing in the state after an ‘oral fluid sample’ taken after the fight on Feb. 2 showed the presence of marijuana, which is banned in competition by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

“Ms. Shields’ conduct as a licensed professional boxer constitutes an immediate threat to the integrity of professional boxing, the public interest and the welfare and safety of professional athletes,” the Michigan Commission said on Thursday.

The World Boxing Organization (WBO), which does not have the authority to suspend boxers, has requested a “show notice” from Shields to provide an explanation. The Michigan Commission is also conducting its own investigation to determine if disciplinary action is necessary.

Shields, the only boxer to hold every major world title — WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO — in three weight classes and a two-time Olympic gold medalist, took to social media last week posting, “Clean athletes win.”

Under the World Boxing Council Clean Boxing Program, both Shields and Perkins have been tested by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA).

Under the WBC’s clean boxing programme, Shields and Perkins would have been subject to drug testing by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (Vada).

She is undefeated in 16 fights and was the first boxer, male or female, to win undisputed titles in three different weights in the four-belt era.

Following his win over Josh Padley over the weekend, Shakur Stevenson talks to boxing media about what he wants to do next while touching on his ongoing rivalry with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. Check out some of what Stevenson had to say on the topic below.

Stevenson on whether a fight against Tank is the obvious one to make next

“Yeah, it’s the two best fighters in boxing. Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis is a hell of a fighter, I keep telling ya’ll he got great skills, but I’m better than him. I’m better than him at hit and don’t get hit and he can’t beat me.”

Bernard Hopkins Delivers Honest Verdict On Gervonta Davis vs Shakur Stevenson: "No Controversy" - Seconds Out

On Tank seemingly taunting him for not getting Padley out of there quickly when he was an overmatched late replacement opponent

“Once again, Tank’s style is a power puncher. He’s a guy that’s trying to knock you out. I’m a guy that’s trying to break you down, pick you apart, win, if the knockout comes, it comes. So two different styles, but I’m better than him at the art of boxing.”

On if he respects Tank

“I got respect for his game, I don’t got respect for the person. I think he’s a clown.”

On how a fight against Tank can be made

“Turki got all the money so put the biggest fight on. Let’s negotiate. I think both of us can make a lot of money and I’m ready to make it happen.”

Gervonta Davis (3-0 with 28 knockouts) won the IBF junior lightweight title in his 17th pro fight, scoring a seventh-round TKO win over José Pedraza in 2017. He defended that belt with two knockouts before knocking out Jesús Cuellar in the third round in their 2018 bout to capture the WBA super featherweight title. Then, in 2019, the Baltimore-born fighter moved to lightweight to fight Yuriorkis Gamboa for the vacant WBA (regular) lightweight title. Davis won that contest by TKO in the 12th round. Davis then defeated Leo Santa Cruz in 2020 by sixth-round knockout in a scrap that was for the WBA lightweight and WBA super featherweight belts. In December 2021, following a TKO over Mario Barrios in June 2021, Davis faced Isaac Cruz for the WBA lightweight strap. That contest went 12 rounds, with Davis winning via unanimous decision. Davis is 4-0 since the win over Cruz, beating Rolando Romero, Hector Garcia, Ryan Garcia, and most recently Frank Martin via knockout.

ESPN has Davis ranked as the No. 8 pound-for-pound boxer. He is the No. 1 ranked 135-pound fighter.

Lamont Roach Jr. (25-1-1) sported a 19-0-1 record when he stepped into the ring in November 2019 to face Jamel Herring for the WBO super featherweight title. That contest went the 12-round distance, with Herring retaining his belt. Roach bounced back with four wins after that setback. Then, in November 2023, Roach got the opportunity to fight for the WBA super featherweight belt, meeting Héctor Luis García. Roach won that contest via majority decision. In his most recent outing, the Washington DC-born competitor defeated Feargal McCrory by TKO in front of a hometown crowd to retain that title.

Roach is the No. 5 ranked 130-pounder.

“I’m gonna chop, chop, bob and weave. I’m gonna end it in the ninth round,” Davis said at the fight’s press conference.

“I like to show people that they aren’t who they say they are.” Davis added. “I like to prove it to the people they come with. My first time winning the title, the whole building doubted me.”

“Lamont’s got skills. Even at a smaller weight class,” said Davis. “He’s one of the guys who I came up with in the sport of boxing, and he’s still doing well. He’s definitely a top opponent and everyone will see that on March 1.

“I shouldn’t be here if I didn’t believe I’m gonna win. I’ve hurt everybody that I’ve been in the ring with and this won’t be any different,” said Roach.

“This is a hell of an opportunity and we’re gonna conquer it,” added the challenger. “Everyone knows what I’m coming to do. And if you don’t, you’ll be surprised. I’m gonna show you what happens when two dogs go in the ring together.”

We will have more on the Davis vs. Roach fight card, including updated betting odds, as fight night approaches.

Joseph Parker has faced some of the heavyweight division’s biggest hitters, not least Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua.

Parker was served his first loss by ‘AJ’ back in 2018, losing his WBO World Heavyweight World Title in the process. Recently, he has built back on an incredible run of form that includes beating Wilder and Zhilei Zhang on points.

Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua

Speaking to Through The Ropes, Parker said Zhang – who put him down twice – hit harder than Wilder though admitted he perhaps hadn’t felt the full force of the American.

“I would say Zhang [hit harder] cause he dropped me twice and landed the cleaner shots. Wilder did hit hard but never really clean. I was lucky my hand was up to catch his punches.”

This sentiment was backed up in a conversation with Tony Bellew, who revealed that the New Zealander does believe ‘Big Bang’ has hit him hardest out of all opponents – that includes Wilder, Joshua and Dillian Whyte.

“[Parker] actually told me Zhang’s the hardest he’s ever been hit in his life. He said Zhang hits so hard.”

Next up for Parker may be one man who hits harder than even Zhang – current IBF World Champion Daniel Dubois on February 22. Dubois recently knocked out Joshua in five to retain the belt it after he was elevated from interim to full champ when Oleksandr Usyk vacated the belt.

Chinese southpaw Zhang returns on the same card to face Agit Kabayel. Should both he and Parker win, Zhang will be angling for a contracted rematch that never came to fruition.

Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou met in a big heavyweight clash back in March.

It brought together two men that had sent shockwaves through the division in recent times, but for very different reasons.

Joshua had bounced back following his two straight defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, where he had lost his unified world heavyweight titles.

He had picked up wins over Jermaine Franklin and Robert Helenius since those losses, but had failed to set the world alight with either of those performances.

That changed with his next outing, where he outclassed Otto Wallin a dominant fifth round retirement victory, setting up the fight against Ngannou.

It was a slightly different path for Ngannou that earned him the Joshua bout, with the former UFC heavyweight champion initially making the switch from MMA to take on Tyson Fury in October 2023.

Ngannou shocked the world when he knocked down Fury in the third round, but went on to lose the fight by a close split decision.

Then came the fight against Joshua, but ‘AJ’ made it a one-sided affair, dropping Ngannou multiple times on his way to a destructive second round knockout win.

Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou

While some fans felt that Ngannou may want to avenge his defeat, he told Seconds Out that he wasn’t happy with things that happened throughout fight week and is not interested in running it back.

“A rematch with Joshua? I felt very off and not comfortable in that fight. It’s something that could happen, but what I do know for sure is I want the rematch with Fury.

“I’m not a conspiracy theorist but I didn’t like the Joshua fight. Things weren’t right, and if it would be the same scenario, I’m not interested. Something unfair definitely happened. I don’t have the full picture but I have seen myself what wasn’t right. I was in the locker room for almost four hours, which is not something that happens, so just from there.”

Ngannou has also been linked to Deontay Wilder.

Mike Tyson named the only boxer who could handle his legendary power.

Mike Tyson once named the only boxer who could take his full punch power during his legendary career.

Tyson enjoyed a stellar professional boxing career, which he resumed when he fought Jake Paul last month.

Before his fight against Paul, he recorded 58 fights, winning 50 of them including a staggering 44 victories inside the distance.

Tyson fought some of the biggest names of his era, facing the likes of Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis and Buster Douglas, who produced, at the time, the biggest upset in the sport’s history when he scored a shock win in Tokyo, Japan.

Despite losing to Holyfield, Lewis and Douglas, he snubbed the trio when naming the opponent who could live with his power inside the ring.

That goes to Jose Ribalta, who fought ‘Iron’ Mike back in August 1986.

Tyson won the bout via TKO in the 10th round at the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City in New Jersey.

Even though he eventually wore down Ribalta and stopped him in the final round of their scheduled contest, Tyson felt that he was the one and only fighter that was able to take his punches.

Speaking to Ring TV in a Q&A back in 2014, he revealed: “I hit Jose Ribalta with everything, and he took everything and kept coming back for more.

“Jose Ribalta stood toe to toe with me. He was very strong in the clinches.”

Cuba’s Ribalta had 22 pro wins to his name when he fought Tyson, who was an unbeaten phenom when they met.

Tyson had taken out his opponents in the opening stages, but Ribalta gave him rounds.

Ribalta reeled off nine wins in a row after his defeat to Tyson and went onto fight the likes of Tim Witherspoon, Bruce Seldon, Frank Bruno, Larry Holmes and Vitali Klitschko before calling time on his career.

Claressa Shields had enough. The American boxer has come to the aid of Travis Hunter after the online hate left the NFL star devastated. It even pushed him to delete his Instagram handle to protect his girlfriend. While there has been no word about the decision, he could have done it to escape the negativity. The whole incident has left many fans and pros seething with anger and frustration, and ‘GWOAT’ is no different.

It all started when the fans tore apart Leanna Lenee for her behavior at the Heisman Trophy ceremony. The fans saw her stay seated while the whole crowd stood up and applauded Hunter as he collected the Heisman trophy. The situation didn’t change even when Deion Sanders, the Buffaloes head coach, nudged her. After that, Lenee gave Hunter a brief hug before taking her seat again. This drew a lot of flak from the hardcore fans, and the scathing criticism didn’t stop.

Shields, 29, took to her X handle and took the Buffaloes star’s side. She blasted the fans for meddling with the lovely couple’s life and even pushed Hunter to the brink of deleting his Instagram account. She wrote, “This why I go off on y’all and hurt yall feelings! Why tf are you y’all trolling TRAVIS HUNTER for! Leave him tf alone! If he love the girl let him love her! Always in other mfs business! He too nice to yall a**! Mind yall MF’N business! Done made him deactivate his damn Instagram!”

The two-time undisputed champion then issued a warning to the hate-spitting fans. She continued, “I hate anybody who said something to him! Everybody not cut for that sh*t! Go accomplish something instead of being mean to athletes and celebrities! Stg I wanna break yall damn fingers !”

Hunter himself had addressed the whole situation when he appeared in a Twitch stream and expressed his frustration. This was before he even decided to take a break from social media and keep himself and his fiancee away from the online hate.

Travis Hunter: telling the world the emotional turmoil Leanna Lenee going through

In the Twitch stream, the 21-year-old told his viewers that Lenee had slept after crying and resorting to drinking alcohol. He added how he didn’t want to disturb her sleep after all the troubles she was going through. He declared, “I know what I got. I know my girl. My girl’s been with me for five years. Y’all are just now starting to talk about me and just now starting to be with me. Come on, man.”

Lenee herself had tried to put up a defense for herself as she took on TikTok to share her side of the story. She said, “People are saying that I’m like, ‘What am I supposed to do? Just sit here?’ That’s not what I said, first of all.” She then detailed how fans were making wrong interpretations of a 7-second-long video. She also admitted she was taking pictures and talking to the fans. It might take a while for the two to escape the online windstorm.
