Mike Tyson named the only boxer who could handle his legendary power.

Mike Tyson once named the only boxer who could take his full punch power during his legendary career.

Tyson enjoyed a stellar professional boxing career, which he resumed when he fought Jake Paul last month.

Before his fight against Paul, he recorded 58 fights, winning 50 of them including a staggering 44 victories inside the distance.

Tyson fought some of the biggest names of his era, facing the likes of Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis and Buster Douglas, who produced, at the time, the biggest upset in the sport’s history when he scored a shock win in Tokyo, Japan.

Despite losing to Holyfield, Lewis and Douglas, he snubbed the trio when naming the opponent who could live with his power inside the ring.

That goes to Jose Ribalta, who fought ‘Iron’ Mike back in August 1986.

Tyson won the bout via TKO in the 10th round at the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City in New Jersey.

Even though he eventually wore down Ribalta and stopped him in the final round of their scheduled contest, Tyson felt that he was the one and only fighter that was able to take his punches.

Speaking to Ring TV in a Q&A back in 2014, he revealed: “I hit Jose Ribalta with everything, and he took everything and kept coming back for more.

“Jose Ribalta stood toe to toe with me. He was very strong in the clinches.”

Cuba’s Ribalta had 22 pro wins to his name when he fought Tyson, who was an unbeaten phenom when they met.

Tyson had taken out his opponents in the opening stages, but Ribalta gave him rounds.

Ribalta reeled off nine wins in a row after his defeat to Tyson and went onto fight the likes of Tim Witherspoon, Bruce Seldon, Frank Bruno, Larry Holmes and Vitali Klitschko before calling time on his career.

Boxing legend Mike Tyson has insisted he wasn’t the least bit tired during his eight-round struggle against Jake Paul.

A 58-year-old Tyson entered the ring for his first official bout in almost 20 years last month when he faced the YouTuber-turned-fighter. His last match before tangling with Paul was a 2005 defeat to Kevin McBride, where he bowed out after five rounds.

Despite the mix of skepticism and hope that surrounded Tyson’s comeback, many boxing enthusiasts held onto the belief that ‘Iron Mike’ might upset the odds. But as expected, Tyson’s age appeared to become a major factor as he lost steam from the second round.

Even though ‘The Problem Child’ failed to knock out the legendary boxer, he secured a unanimous decision win in Texas. And though spectators suspected Tyson’s energy dropped off a cliff by the third round, the man himself felt time flew on fight night.

“Magically. It just happened so quick,” he told 7News at a Miami pop-up event (via The Mirror). “Eight round were over fast. I wasn’t tired. I wasn’t sweating. I didn’t understand that.”

‘Iron Mike’ seems to have finally hung up his gloves for good when it comes to fighting. However, he doesn’t see his connection to the boxing world ending there.

“As I said before, the sky is the limit,” he said when asked about what the future holds. “Anything I want, I’m just happy to be able to do it. I’m very grateful to have the opportunity to be able to do everything that I want to do in this and beyond.”

Mike Tyson and Jake Paul

His remarks came shortly after his wife seemed to hint at Tyson’s retirement from the ring. His son, Amir, disclosed that his stepmother has declared the icon “done” for good.

Speaking with Seconds Out, Tyson Jr said: “I think he’s done. My stepmom, she’s saying he’s done and they’re a team. That’s husband-and-wife stuff.”

In the same conversation, Amir tackled the rumors that the fight was fixed, adding: “Some people are on that bogus ‘oh, it’s rigged’. We know it wasn’t rigged. He just got tired. Jake would move out the way. It looked like he pulled his punches back but Jake’s moving. It’s not like the pads, he’s moving.

“When someone doesn’t want to accept that someone lost, when it doesn’t go that way of course they’re gonna pull that. And that’s what they’re putting on the internet. His gas tank after the third round was just shot. That’s all it was. He just kept on staying throughout. He did his best. No holding back, he did the best he could at his age.”

Boxing icon Roy Jones Jr has expressed his disappointment in Jake Paul’s performance against Mike Tyson and called out the YouTuber-turned-boxer.

Jones’ last fight was in 2023, where he suffered a majority decision defeat to former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis. This marked Jones Jr’s first professional fight since his victory over Scott Sigmon in 2018, but he did participate in an exhibition match against Tyson in 2020, which ended in a predictable draw.

Tyson returned to the ring four years later for a heavyweight bout with Paul in Texas, losing a points decision after eight boring rounds. And Jones Jr, who provided commentary for the match, revealed his dissatisfaction with ‘The Problem Child’s’ performance against the 58-year-old legend.

“The fight really did not live up to the hype,” Jones Jr told BoxingScene. “You have a 58-year-old man against a 27-year-old man. We expected more because Mike was a former great and still is a great. Jake is just a guy learning the game. We expected more fireworks from Mike, and Jake, really. To be honest, you got your money’s worth in the two fights before that in Mario Barrios vs. Abel Ramos and Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano. To me, you didn’t get cheated out of anything.”

While Jones Jr revealed he hasn’t had any discussions about facing the young American, he insisted he’d beat Paul in the ring. “I haven’t had any conversations about fighting Jake Paul. I am not really a full-fledged heavyweight, but I weigh probably what he weighs right now,” he added. It wouldn’t be hard to match his weight, I guess. They do catch weights, so I’m sure we could figure out the right weight. We can make it happen. The only thing different though is he will probably have to take me out because I’m coming to knock him out.

“I’m going to get him, or he’s going to get me. It would be very difficult to pick him apart because he is so powerful and big. He has power and is a dangerous puncher. I would beat him, I’m sure, but you would have to be on your A-game all night, especially at my age.”

In the aftermath of his win over Tyson, Paul revealed that despite the intense pre-fight trash talk, he had no desire to knock out the legend when it became clear he was merely trying to survive as his age began to take its toll. “I wanted to give the fans a show but I didn’t want to hurt someone that didn’t need to be hurt,” Paul explained. “There was a point where he (Tyson) was not engaging back, I could just tell his age was showing a little bit. That violence war thing… that went away as the rounds went on.”

Paul also addressed his reputation for being a polarizing figure, stating, “People just love to hate me. I intentionally say things for people to hate. That’s what I like to do. If people want to see more… give me a couple of months. I tried to give the best fight I possibly could. When someone’s just surviving in the ring, it’s hard to make it exciting. I don’t care what people have to say. It is what it is.”

Mike Tyson Posts Training Video For Jake Paul Netflix Boxing Fight: ‘Unconquerable’

Mike Tyson dropped another training video Friday on X ahead of his upcoming boxing match against Jake Paul.

The 30-second video, which is narrated by Tyson, shows the former world champion working out and breaking a sweat in anticipation of his first official professional bout since 2005:

Tyson also commented Friday on his expectations for the bout, telling TalkSport (h/t MMAFighting.com): “I see [Paul] running around, I have to catch him and slaughter him.”

The 58-year-old Tyson also made it clear that he isn’t afraid to get in the ring with the much younger Paul, saying: “No, [I don’t fear him] because he stepped into the ring. If my mother steps in the ring, she has a problem with me. Whoever’s in that ring, they have a problem. Don’t go in the ring if you don’t want that problem.”

Tyson and Paul were originally scheduled to clash on July 20, but the fight had to be moved back to Nov. 15 due to Tyson experiencing ulcer issues.

Now, it appears all systems are go for Tyson vs. Paul, which will pit a Hall of Famer with a career record of 50-6 against a YouTuber-turned-boxer who has only 11 career fights to his credit.

Tyson told TalkSport that while Paul is a “good little fighter,” he is considered an “amateur” in the boxing world.

Paul has technically competed in 11 professional fights and compiled a 10-1 record, however, most of his bouts were against former MMA fighters or low-level boxers.

Despite being out of boxing for years, Tyson will look to prove that he is still capable of winning a big fight, even at nearly 60 years of age.

Tyson vs. Paul is set for Nov. 15 at the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and it will stream live on Netflix.

“I Fear For Him” Anthony Joshua Makes ‘Worrying’ Mike Tyson-Jake Paul Prediction: “I Fear For Him”

Mike Tyson ‘s fight with Jake Paul is fast approaching and the predictions continue to fly in from all quarters.

There are now three months to go until this rather unlikely showdown in Texas in November. The fight was first scheduled for July but Tyson was forced to postpone the bout after suffering an ulcer flare-up.

Since then he has been in recovery and his opponent, the almost 30 years younger Paul, was determined to fight on their original date.

He beat former UFC fighter and bare-knuckle champion Mike Perry by fifth round stoppage to take his record to 11-1.

Tyson might have once upon a time been the youngest ever heavyweight but has not fought professionally since 2005 when he ended his storied career with a pair of losses, though he did lace up the gloves once in 2022 for an exhibition with Roy Jones Jr that ended in a pre-arranged draw.

Fellow former heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua, has now been asked about the contest by Jonathan Ross and deemed it good for the sport.

“I personally think it’s really good. I think the boxing fanatics don’t like it because it’s like why are they disrespecting our sport, there’s an Olympic system you go through and once you qualify there you go through the professional ranks, whereas someone with a profile can come out of nowhere and fight the best guys.

“Let’s say we divided this crowd in half and half are hardcore boxing fans and half are people that love a certain person like a YouTuber, but that person brings all these people into boxing with benefits everyone. It’s a tough game so everyone viewing helps so I think it’s really good for exposure.”

He then predicted the fight and sided with the younger man, fearing Tyson’s age might catch up to him and praying the 58-year-old comes out healthy.

“The only thing I’m worried about is father time and father time has never been beat.

Tyson is older now, I pray that he comes out healthy.

I think Jake Paul [will in] because of the youth, that’s the only thing, because of the youth.”

Joshua has plenty on his own plate as right now he is in camp for his word title showdown with Daniel Dubois in September at Wembley. Victory would see him become a three-time world champion, while a loss would mean a long road back.
