‘This is what boxing needs’ – US fans rejoice as Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois PPV price is revealed

US fight fans are excited about finally getting a cheap pay-per-view boxing event.

According to PPV.com, fans in America can buy Anthony Joshua’s IBF heavyweight title fight against Daniel Dubois for just $19.99 on September 21

That’s a huge price cut. A week earlier on September 14, Canelo Alvarez vs Edgar Berlanga will cost fans $89.99 and UFC 306 will set ESPN+ subscribers back $69.99.

Boxing fans across the pond have become accustomed to extortionate PPV prices, and their delight was clear after learning about the bargain offer for Joshua vs Dubois.

One person tweeted: “I’m definitely gonna buy it now.”

Another said: “Wow! More than a fair deal and I bet the numbers will show ppl appreciate it.”

A third person commented: “A solid price might buy and not stream.”

Someone else wrote: “Wasn’t going to watch but for $20 bucks might as well.”

Lower-priced PPV events will become the norm if His Excellency Turki Alalshikh gets his way.

The chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority wants to to tackle illegal streaming and appease boxing fans around the world by reducing PPV prices.

“You mention the PPV, I think this is my next big fight and I want your advice also,” he told talkSPORT’s Jordan and White show on Monday morning.

“I dream of a PPV with a good price to make the fans happy and subscribe and get them to watch it legally.

“Usually when I see a high PPV, a lot of people go and watch the fight illegally and this is not healthy for boxing and the platform.

“What I will try to push is to have our Riyadh Season shows at less than £20 in England and less than $20 around the world…

“I would prefer to have one million fans subscribe and buy the PPV for £20 than less than 500,000 [for £40].

Alalshikh says his next big boxing event on October 12 will be even cheaper.

He added: “The card opening Riyadh Season in October [Beterbiev vs Bivol] I decide to sell it for £15 to the UK and $15 around the world.”
